Description
The Museo Storico della Terza Armata keeps alive in Padua, inside Palazzo Camerini, the memory of the Great War fought on the Karst and the lower Piave. The palace was the headquarters of the Third Army until 1973; the museum was founded in 1956.
On display is a rich collection of photographs of the conflict, along with finds and memorabilia from the war of 1915-1918. The museum also has some period documentaries on military history, which visitors can ask to see.
The Third Army fought the battles of the Isonzo on the Karst, then, after the retreat to the Piave, the Battle of the Solstice and that of Vittorio Veneto, in 1918. It was led by Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy-Aosta, and propaganda called it "the Undefeated Army": it was never directly beaten in battle.
