Description

The Arena Public Gardens, a true example of a public city park integrated into the historical urban fabric, extend over an area that ranges from Corso Garibaldi to Via Porciglia, bordering the Main Trunk of the Bacchiglione River, which connects the Brenta and Bacchiglione rivers and is still navigable. Along this side of the Gardens stands the Bastion of the Arena, part of the city walls. Opposite the Bastion, the old Gasometer and the dock where barges laden with coal arrived in the city.
The Gardens can be accessed both from the small square with the Garibaldi monument, at the intersection of Corso Garibaldi and Via Giotto, and from Via Porciglia.
Inside, we can admire the remains of the Arena, the ancient Roman theater of Padua, built around 70 AD, the Scrovegni Chapel, built between 1303 and 1305 and decorated with Giotto's splendid frescoes, and the Eremitani Complex, with the convent, now home to the Civic Museums, and the Church.
