Description
A Padua Jewish Ghetto tour brings you to a corner of the historic centre where a community has lived for centuries. The guide begins at the Jewish Museum, which follows the events and rituals of Padua's Jewish community from its origins to today.
A multimedia video work by the director Denis Brotto presents ten notable figures of Jewish life in Padua, who seem to tell their own stories through the places that stand for the community. Afterwards the walk goes on through the narrow, closed-in streets of the former Ghetto, with the story of the settlement and its trade, society, culture and religion.
The visit ends in the Italian Synagogue, where the community still prays. The guide describes the Aron-ha-Kodesh, a sacred ark in coloured marble on the eastern wall.
